If you are interested in the air war during the Vietnam war, I have a great read for you! "When Thunder Rolled: An F-105 Pilot Over North Vietnam" by Ed Rasimus is a well written account of the author's experiences starting in USAF pilot training. Rasimus graduates high in his class and wants to fly fighters. But, his dream was some assignment to Europe or some other exotic location. As the war in Vietnam heats up he finds himself on the way to that war instead. He is very worried about whether he can actually face combat and actually considers quitting but once he arrives at his base in Thailand he decides to fly just one mission first. His doubts and fears make him a very normal man. How he handles it all is very interesting. Tactics used while flying over the North, the flying characteristics of the F-105 and personal interactions among the pilots of his squadron make this a very good read. At the conclusion, there are some very good reflections on the Vietnam war and what motivated those that fought there. A thoroughly enjoyable read! Attachments:
