DAY 8: Planned for God’s Pleasure
“If it so pleases the court”
recognition of authority, humbly beseech
• He did not need to create me
• He did so for His own pleasure
o His benefit, glory, purpose, delight
• Living for His pleasure
o First purpose of my life
o Gives complete significance to my life
• Defines my worth
•
Ephesians 1:5 God had already decided thRoat through Jesus Christ he would make us his children—this was his pleasure and purpose.
• “Worship” = bringing pleasure to God
Psalm 147:11 but he takes pleasure in those who honor him, in those who trust in his constant love.
• Anything I do that brings pleasure to God is an act of worship
o Innate urge in man to worship (look at “pagan” cultures and international religions seeking a god or many gods)
• We are “wired” with a propensity towards worship
o We even worship ourselves
John 4:23 But the time is coming and is already here, when by the power of God's Spirit people will worship the Father as he really is, offering him the true worship that he wants.
• I need to expand my concept of worship
o Not merely church attendance, music, prayers, sacraments, sermons, traditional means
o “ I got a lot out of the service today” = wrong
• this is backwards, it is not for my benefit
• though we do gain from fellowship
• being in line with God’s purpose
o God is not touched by tradition or pomp and circumstance, but
• By passion and commitment
Isaiah 29:13: The Lord said, “These people claim to worship me, but their words are meaningless, and their hearts are somewhere else. Their religion is nothing but human rules and traditions, which they have simply memorized.
• worship is a lifestyle; not a part of my life, it IS my life
• every activity can be a form of worship
1 Corinthians 10:31: Well, whatever you do, whether you eat or drink, do it all for God's glory.
• Let my everyday life be my offering to God, work and play becomes worship when it is dedicated to God, with an AWARMENSS OF HIS PRESENCE
• ABIDING IN HIS LOVE
Romans 12:1 So then, my friends, because of God's great mercy to us I appeal to you: Offer yourselves as a living sacrifice to God, dedicated to his service and pleasing to him. This is the true worship that you should offer.
DEFN: abide 1.to remain; continue; stay: Abide with me.
2.to have one's abode; dwell; reside:
3.to continue in a particular condition, attitude, relationship, last.
