To our praying friends and supporters,
I apologize that this is not a full blown update, but I wanted to keep you up to date on what we are doing and how life is progressing here in Alaska. It is getting much lighter here, it finally was completely dark last night at about 11:45pm once the glow of the setting sun slipped below the horizon. Soon it will be light until well after midnight which makes for many more hours awake than what we should be up for but winter is for sleeping. The bears are waking up and we are anticipating the runs of salmon this July.
I have been busy working in the Arctic Barnabas hangar keeping our planes maintained so they can fly on schedule. I was able to finish the engine change and annual inspection on our new Cessna 206 pictured below. In addition to maintaining our planes I have been able to travel to several villages to visit and encourage pastors and missionaries. With these trips I am able to build my flight time here in Alaska so I will be able to venture out on my own and not need to take another pilot with me. This is a policy we have so I can be safer here in Alaska. The flying here is much more hazardous than in many parts of the world because of the quickly changing weather, mountainous terrain and the remoteness of many of the places we fly. I value every opportunity I have to learn more about flying here, so I can make it home to be with my family.
Sara and several of our children have also been able to fly with me or others in our ministry to visit and minister in villages only accessible by air. The picture with Anna "stuffed" into our Cessna 206 was just before launching off to Port Alsworth. In addition Sara, Anna and Amber a friend staying with us through June, a local student at the Christian high school and two of our pilots were able to travel to Pilot Point on the Alaska Peninsula in our larger Piper Navajo to visit the two couples ministering there.
We are so appreciative of your cards and letters, notes of encouragement and your prayers for our ministry. Please continue to be in prayer for us and what we have ahead, right now for a good end to the school year for the children and the busy summer of ministry. Our entire family will be in Spokane, WA for the month of August connecting with as many of you as we can, we would love to see you.
Many of you asked about our vehicle situation and let me say a hearty "Thank you" to all who helped with that need, we were able to purchase a 2001 Toyota Corolla for me to commute in to keep our fuel costs down, this car is a true blessing. As always please feel free to come visit us at anytime we would love to have you.
