I’m always looking for a book to share with y’all here on PFC. It just occurred to me that there is a book that is my constant companion that I need to tell you about. It lives with my Bible and goes with me on all my travels. The title? “What The Bible Is All About (Bible Handbook)” by Dr. Henrietta Mears.
Dr. Mears went to be with the Lord in 1963 and is considered one of the greatest Bible teachers by none other than the Rev. Billy Graham, who wrote the forward to the book. Here are his words:
“Millions of people today are searching for a reliable voice of authority. The Word of God is the only real authority we have. His Word sheds light on human nature, world problems and human suffering. But beyond that, it clearly reveals the way to God.
The message of the Bible is the message of Jesus Christ who said, “I am the way, the truth and the life” (John 14:6). It is the story of salvation; the story of your redemption and mine through Christ; the story of life, peace and eternity….
The Bible is old; yet it is ever new. It is the most modern book in the world today…..but to all who read the and love the Bible, it is relevant to our generation. It is in the Bible that we find the answers to life’s ultimate questions; Where did I come from? Why am I here? Where am I going? What is the purpose of my existence?
One of the greatest needs in the Church today is to come back to the Scriptures as the basis of authority, and to study them prayerfully in dependence on the Holy Spirit. When we read God’s Word, we fill our hearts with His words, and God is speaking to us…..
The Bible, the greatest document available for the human race, needs to be opened, read and believed. One survey indicated that only 12% of the people who said they believe the Bible actually read it every day; 34% read it only once a week, and 42% read it only once in a great while.
This book, “What The Bible Is All About” will help make the reading and study of God’s Word interesting, challenging and useful. We commend it to you.”
As a late starter in my study of the Bible I have found this Bible companion a great aid in my understanding. Very soon I will share with you some of Dr. Mears’ words of wisdom!
If you are interested in purchasing this book be sure you get the copy that has your Bible version indicated on the cover!
Your brother,
Don
