Romans 1:20 - For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.
I remember going through officer military training and being taught the "basic responses" which were "yes sir, no sir, I'll find out sir, and NO EXCUSE, SIR". I'm fairly sure that was all we were allowed to respond with. The one that really bothered me the most was the last. Often I felt as if I had an "excuse" or a reason for my lack of knowledge or understanding of a matter. To say "no excuse" seemed like a "cop out" towards a system that demanded complete accountability and responsibility for things beyond my grasp. Many "plebes" (freshman midshipman) would respond with long explanations to "cover their six", all to the glee of upperclassman who would allow their story to go on, finish, and then label such nonsense as the words of a "sea lawyer"....no greater insult could be made other than "traitor" or "bagger".
In retrospect, I now see the wise response would often have been "I'll find out, sir". Such a position opens the door towards learning and admittance of ignorance. Finding out the "hard way" is often the best road for long term retention anyway.
In the context of our faith, the above verse clearly spells the situation out in plain, no nonsense language. It calls us to "pay close attention" to the world around us and all of God's creation. If we look with an open heart, the eyes of a child, and anticipating to "see God", we see His presence, nature, and awe inspiring works.
Allow me the privilege of encouraging you to "look carefully" at His creations. Tomorrow look for one magnificent revelation of God's presence with expectation. When you find it, share it here.
NO EXCUSES.
