Group,
I just finished this wonderful book that hit me right between the eyes and deep in my heart! If you are like me and you are more of a "talk the talker" instead of really "walking the walk," this will be a real blessing, inspiration and challenge for you!
Johnnie Moore is a the campus pastor and vice president of Liberty University. His writing style makes this an easy read. But it's not fluff. There is a lot in this book to challenge the Christian who is really not engaged in living a truly Christian life. From the book cover:
"What would happen if the world's Christians actually began to live what they say they believe?
He demonstrates the difference between cultural Christianity and the real thing - a living faith that....
- embraces doubt and answer's life's hardest questions
- leaves your soul feeling healthy and satisfied
- enables you to get back up again when you fall and fail
- motivates and empowers you to make a difference in the world
- gives you a clear vision of what life should be with God involved in it."
Joni Eareckson Tada wrote the foreword. If you don't know Joni's story please Google her!
There are lots of interesting chapters. In "When Your Ship Wrecks - What To Do with Seasons of Suffering" you will learn the story behind the wonderful hymn, "It Is Well With My Soul."
In the chapter entitled "We Are 'Get Back Up Again' People" we learn that Christianity is not a peace treaty with life. A quote from Charles Spurgeon in that chapter: "God never puts more on us than He puts in us. God is too good to be unkind, too wise to be mistaken, and when I cannot trace His hand, I can always trust His heart."
In "Holy Calluses - Seeing Work As Devine" we find this quote from William Carey, a pioneer missionary: "We should work like everything depends on us and pray like everything depends on God."
And there is so much more! Please pick up this book. Read it slowly and carefully. It will be a real blessing to you!
Your brother,
Don
