I’ve often said that to speculate early and even elaborate at all on aviation accidents or incident causal factors is or at the very least can be unprofessional... However, with the situation on Jet Blue yesterday where the Captain had some sort of psychotic episode, I think I can remain inside professional bounds. First and foremost, prayers of thanks for the safe outcome of the situation certainly are in order, and congrats to the flight crew and passengers who, as far as can be seen so far acted with courage and professionalism. As far as the Captain, naturally, at least at the beginning, all levels will have to be covered including possible federal charges, followed by all the physical and mental testing that are soon to follow. I would think that, unless some sort of self administered elicit drug is found in his system, medical professionals will get to the bottom of what caused his episode and if it was a psychological “snap”, serious legal charges would be stripped away. That being said, I would think that we, both as current and past professional pilots, offer prayer for the Captain who thus far has been described only as a consummate professional of the highest regard... and again, barring any findings of drugs he should not have had, wish him, his family, and his well being all the best. “Thank you Father God for the safe ending to a flight so frightening for the pax, and also for the citizens of this great nation who now are shown to be more than willing to take charge in the cabin and risk their all...” In Jesus Name, Amen
