Bible Study Verses
Ephesians 6:13-18
Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints. (NKJV)
I noticed something about this verse that I never had before.. "Defense!" Although obviously it mentions the "sword of the Spirit", but with the exception of "prayer" this is the only offensive weapon mentioned.
All the rest, the armor "gird your waist with truth",
the breastplate of righteousness,
feet shod with the gospel of peace;
the shield of faith against firey darts,
the helmet of salvation,
and being watchful (prayer)
These all put the bulk of emphasis on being on the offensive, guarding, standing strong, and dodging the "darts" of the enemy...
Interestingly, this verse has just caused a change in my "magnetic field or orientation"... As a student of astronomy and cosmology, I know that the earth is protected in large part by it's magnetic fields, protecting us from the harmful attacks of the constant bombardment of harmful radiation from the fury of the sun and it's storms. So then, we should put up those same protections around ourselves to protect from the evil bombardment... Just some thinking time before starting my day.. Dave
