DC-7 May 18 1916 - Kiffin Rockwell scores the first aerial victory for the Escadrille Americaine in WWI. 1952 - Jeanna Yeager (no kin to Chuck), copilot with Dick Rutan of the Rutan Voyager on its round the world flight in 1986, and the first woman to receive the Collier Trophy, is born in Ft. Worth, TX. 1953 - First flight of the Douglas DC-7. This is the last piston-engine transport for Douglas. (343 produced) 1953 - Jacqueline Cochran, flying a Canadian-built F-86 Sabre at Edwards AFB, CA, becomes the first woman to fly faster than sound. 1953 - Capt. Joseph McConnell flies his last two combat missions and scores three victories over MiG-15s bringing his total to 16, making him the top American ace of the Korean War.
