Recently I left for my airline at "oh-dark early." In my early morning daze I failed to pack my "library" which included my bible, my bible companion and my daily devotional book. When I realized this at the airport I went to the book store in search of some light reading for a change. What do I see as I walk in but a display for the book "Seven Things That Steal Your Joy" by Joyce Meyer. So much for light reading! <VBG> This was God's direction in my life as I have an extended family member who is sorely in need of what this book has to offer!
In today's environment, I find that it is harder and harder to remember David's command: "This is the day the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it." (Psalm 118:24) So many people and events that surround us every day attempt to rob us of that joy. While nothing written in this book is particularly new or rocket science, it is certainly a good reminder of what are some of the things that are attempting to rob us of our joy and what we can do about it. And the best part is that it is all scripturally based!!
While I won't list all the "Joy Stealers," some that I see in our workplace include: Complicating Simple Issues, Ungodly Anger, Jealousy and Envy, and Habitual Discontent (Wow. That one is alive and well in the crew rooms and FBOs!). Each chapter is then followed by a chapter entitled "Joy Keepers" which gives the antidote for the "Stealers."
If you know somebody who has lost their joy, or if maybe you have, this would be a good read! It certainly re-energized me and gave me some good "ammunition" to use in my personal challenge!
Your brother,
Don
