Circle of Energy
To this end I strenuously contend with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me. Colossians 1:29, NIV The largest and most powerful particle accelerator on earth is buried beneath the border of Switzerland and France. It’s the CERN Large Hadron Collider—a 17-mile-long circle nearly 600 feet below ground. Particles fly around the tunnel at velocities approaching the speed of light, and when they collide, the heat produced can be more than 100,000 times hotter than the center of the sun.
You might not want to live in the middle of that circle. But how about living in the middle of a far greater encircling power—the unlimited energy of Jesus Christ. According to commentator William Hendricksen, the literal Greek translation of Colossians 1:29 is: “By means of his energy energizing within me with power.” The Lord’s power is bottomless, boundless, and immeasurable.
When our own strength is exhausted, we need to remember that God’s children live in the center of His energy, which energizes us with power. How this happens, we cannot discern. But we know this: Just when we need it, the Lord gives the needed strength for the necessary occasion. Day by day, yes, even moment by moment Christ’s enabling Spirit was at work within Paul’s entire person, bestowing strength upon body and soul. William Hendricksen
