WE ARE MORE LIKE JESUS WHEN WE SERVE OTHERS
God did not put us here to live for ourselves. God wants us to make the world a better place. If we want God to bless our lives, then we need to fulfill our purpose. If we are not fulfilling God’s purpose for our lives, we are missing the whole point of life.
“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” (1 Corinthians 15:58)
There is a word for this: It is called ministry. Every Believer is a minister. That means we use our talents and gifts to contribute to life, to be a giver, not a taker.
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10)
Until we experience the transforming power of God’s grace in our lives, we are ruled by our hurts, habits, and hang-ups to think much about others.
Without forgiveness, we will end up serving for the wrong reasons: trying to earn approval from other people, trying to run away from our pain, trying to remedy our guilt, trying to impress God. Service motivated by these reasons will leave us burned out and bitter in the end.
“For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister.” (Hebrews 6:10)
God is more interested in why we serve others than in how well we serve them. God is always looking at our hearts to serve willingly and eagerly out of love for Jesus and gratitude for all God has done in our lives.
How can you make a point to serve others today?
