A Gospel Witness Requires Your Words
By Will Graham Francis of Assisi, a 13th-century monk, is credited with saying: “Preach the Gospel always, and when necessary, use words.”
Seemingly, many Christians today believe that if they just live a “good life,” they don’t need to explain how someone can receive God’s gift of eternal salvation. Sadly, this type of “lifestyle evangelism” without a verbal or written witness is an eternity-altering lie.
You cannot live such an upstanding, righteous and hope-filled life that your loved one will get a “buddy pass” into eternity. After all, if you can’t earn your own way into Heaven, how would you expect to do that for others?
A Biblical witness for Christ involves actions and words. You must explain the truth of Scripture—the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus—before inviting someone to receive the free gift of forgiveness that Christ offers.
“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17). TODAY’S PRAYER Heavenly Father, help me to faithfully share with others how they can receive Your gift of forgiveness and promise of eternal life. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
