When we pray and ask God for help, we do not just sit and wait for God to help us. We have to go to work.
“So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord.” (Deuteronomy 8:3)
God says, “I supply it. You gather it.” That is God’s economy. Even the Children of Israel had to go out and pick up the manna. Work is part of God’s purpose for our lives. It builds character.
“In all labor there is profit, But idle chatter leads only to poverty.” Proverbs 14:23)
When the Bible references “bread,” it is referencing far more than just bread. Bread represents God’s Word and represents the necessities of life.
When the Israelites were walking to the Promised Land, God dropped manna from heaven because they had nothing to eat. God gave them bread to show them they needed more than physical food to live; they needed to depend on God. Real-life comes by feeding on God’s Word. We do not just need physical nourishment; we need spiritual nourishment as well.
“The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?” (1 Corinthians 10:16)
Whether or not we have a physical family, God wants us to be part of His family that will last forever. God made the Church to be a place of fellowship.
Jesus chose bread to represent the sacrifice of His body. Every time we take communion, it reminds us how much God loves us and the sacrifice Jesus made so we can go to heaven.
Whether physical, emotional, relational, or spiritual, our needs today depend on God to meet that need. Pray and ask God to provide, then trust God to take care of us.
How does your life reflect that you need God’s supply, Word, family, and salvation to live?
