Robert is an old friend of mine from our Piedmont/USAirways days. We both worked for the Airline Pilots Association as Flight Safety volunteers. A pilot for 32 years with Piedmont Airlines and USAirways with more than 14,000 flight hours, Sumwalt became the 37th member of the NTSB in August 2006 and was recently promoted to Chairman of the NTSB.
