When I was a young, aspiring aviator, cutting the airport grass and washing airplanes to help with my flying costs, we had two old American DC-6s at the Greenville, IL airport that were used for a flying travel club. The mechanic would periodically do engine runups and I got to sit in the cockpit during the process. What a thrill it was to feel those big recips come grumbling to life. I hoped that I would be flying one some day. I was a little too young for that but I still love those old Dougs!!
