"A fool gives full vent to anger, but the wise quietly holds it back." Proverbs 29:11
From "The Secret Place:"
The man would not stop yelling. He was upset, and he wanted everyone assembled for the city council meeting to know it. For more than five minutes he argued with members of the council, often insulting them with his remarks. Several members tried to calm him, but their pleas only fueled his anger. Finally, one of the council members, a man known for his wisdom and fairness, took the microphone and calmly asked the man if he would be willing to meet with him the next day to discuss his concerns. The disgruntled man mumbled a few words, agreed to the councilman's proposal, and finally sat down.
All of us encounter angry people from time to time. How we respond to them is important. We can respond in anger or we can follow Christ's example of showing kindness. As children of righteousness we have the power of God's Spirit working in us to speak wise, loving and healing words to angry, hurting people each day.
PRAYER: Lord, first of all, forgive me for hurting others with my angry words. Knowing your merciful forgiveness, I want to be wise in controlling my anger and responding to others who are angry with your loving-kindness. Amen.

In addition…there is righteous anger, Jesus showed anger on many occasions, but did not sin. Ephesians 4:6 “In your anger, do not sin”, quoted from Psalms 4:4. Notice it did not say, if you anger. God’s wrath is mentioned over 450 times in the bible (per a sermon I heard from Mark Driscoll), thus His anger. Without slander, we should be angry in seeing what is going on around us, otherwise not to would be pious, self-righteous religion. “But do not let the sun go down in your anger”…I believe what Paul is saying here, is that (1) anger can be a healthy emotion, however (2) if continued it may turn into unrighteous anger and (3) God is still on the throne regardless, so drop it, let it go…
