youtu.be/50m7JE_mC0k This is a history of the 8Th Military Airlift Squadron, McChord AFB, Wa. PFC brother Harry Norton and I served together there during the Vietnam era, flying the C-141. While we flew worldwide, our primary mission was to Southeast Asia. We flew any kind of cargo in-country and then usually flew air-evac missions with wounded outbound. The air drop missions were always interesting. One winter I dropped army troopers north of the Arctic Circle in incredibly cold and nasty conditions. Interesting flying for a young boy from rural Illinois! The video is entitled “The Cassidy Video.” Duane Cassidy, then a Lt Col, was our squadron commander. He rapidly rose through the ranks to general and filled many high command positions. He was one of the early proponents of the C-17. And he personified the definition of great leadership. It was an honor working for him. You will see his picture at the end of the video.
